What should be aware of before buying a refurbished drone?

First, refurbishing means the quality-assured overhaul and repair of products for the purpose of reuse. Here is a list of 5 things you should check before buying a used drone:

  1. Battery cycles:  When you’re looking for a second-hand drone, have a look at the DJI Go App (if you are purchasing a DJI system) under the “Battery” section and make note of how many battery cycles the packs have been through. Some “non-smart” batteries will not allow you to check the cycle count, so be sure to check for any puffing or damage.

  2. Battery conditions: The fact that a battery has a low number of charge and discharge cycles does not always imply that it is in good condition. Examine each pack carefully. Do the sides, top, and bottom appear to be flat? If any of the sides seem rounded or puffy, stay away! A puffed battery usually implies that it is weak or failing. Lithium batteries puff because their cells have begun to break down after being fully charged or totally drained for a lengthy period of time. A lithium battery is normally at its happiest when it's between 30 and 50 percent charged, especially if it's being kept for a long period.

  3. Airframe cracks and damage:  Look for any evidence of gluing or repair to ensure you are buying a drone with an intact airframe. Check the quality of the repair (if the seller indicates there have been repairs). A glued foam airframe will typically be weak.

  4. Number of flights: Most UAVs will have some software that will allow you to read the number of flights on the airframe. In most DJI models, you can find this information inside the Go App. Other models may have it built into the controller. However, purchasing a unit with a high flight count isn't always a bad idea!

  5. If accessories and cases are included: Although accessories don’t drive up the sale price much for the seller, they can add a lot of value to the drone you are purchasing. Consider the following scenario: Batteries range in price from $90-$300 per unit, depending on the drone, and needing to replace them may soon add up. Whether the vendor does not have any accessories included in their ad, it could be worth asking if they have any. Faircado is a transparent platform. It helps the users to better navigate the often-obscure world of online second-hand shopping. Using Faircado is completely free of charge for all consumers and allows you to connect with vendors from all over the world.
